Gilbert Gresslin spent many years working on sewing machines while serving
in the Army. After leaving the service he and his wife Mary opened and
operated a sewing machine sales and repair service in Spencer, Iowa.
They operated this business for many years giving a much needed service to
the community and enjoyed helping individuals with their sewing machine
problems. They would clean, oil, make adjustments, replaced gears,
etc. and the business was a complete sewing machine repair shop.
Gilbert Gresslin saw a need for individuals to be able to repair their own
sewing machines. Upon researching he discovered there were no
manual with this valuable information on the repair of sewing machines and
vacuum cleaners. Gilbert and Mary Gresslin took on the job of writing
a complete set of sewing machine manuals and after two years they
had manuals on the complete repair of sewing machines. The First Correspondence Manuals
were sold in 1971 and later updated to include many of the later models of Pfaff,
Viking, Necchi, and other brands. The manuals are not written with
just a small amount of information but a complete set of sewing machine
repairs instructions including timing, changing gears, cleaning, oiling,
settings etc. The information was copyrighted in Washington, D.C. in
1971.
Gilbert Gresslin sold the Gresslin Correspondence School of Sewing Machine
Repair to Ron and Myrna Bishop in 1995. The business was moved to
Alexandria, Ohio and renamed Gresslin Information Center for Sewing Machine
and Vacuum Cleaner Repair.
The How To repair manuals have been updated, converted to computer
format, and are offered on Compact Disk for convenience and ease of
use. They can be printed and placed into binders for use in the
workshop.
